Apply or renew my passport online. How does it work?

What you need

To apply or renew your passport or ID card you will need:

• a digital paspport photo or the 1overheid photo app
• a debit or credit card to pay online or a paypal-account

Steps in the online application proces

When you start your application you will be presented with the following set of questions and steps:

1. Using DigiD or not

If you use the passport service with a DigiD login your paspport application or renewal can be done completely online. If you don't have a DigiD login you can still use the service, but you will have to make an appointment at a municipality, embassy or consulate to hand over the documents we need for your passport or ID card.

If you don't want to use our online service you can also apply or renew in person by making an appointment at a municipality, embassy or consulate.

2. Question about your situation

Depending on how you apply, you may need to answer a number of questions to determine the required documents for your application.

3. Fill out the passport application form

Your personal data is required for your application as well as your contact details so we can send you a confirmation of your appointment and keep you updated on the status.

4. Make an appointment

Are you applying without DigiD? Is this your first passport application? In that case you'll need to make an appointment to apply in person at a municipality, Dutch embassy or consulate.

5.Pay

You can pay online with a debitcard, creditcard or paypal. If you have made an appointment at a municipality, embassy or consulate you can pay in person on the day of your appointment.
