Processing time and fees

The average processing time for MVV applications is 15 working days. You can pick up the MVV at the embassy or consulate, or have it send to your home by post. The extra costs for shipping are at the expense of the applicant.

Host or sponsor in the Netherlands

You can apply for a MVV via your host or sponsor in The Netherlands. Your host or sponsor can be, for example, a university, employer, partner or spouse. Your host/sponsor sends an application on your behalf to the Dutch Immigration Service (IND). Contact your host or sponsor for information regarding your application.

MVV-sticker

If you receive an approval letter for your long-stay visa from the IND, and you have an application number (V-number), you can apply for an entry permit that allows you to enter the Netherlands.

This permit is also called a MVV-sticker. You can apply for your sticker at a consulate or embassy outside the Netherlands.

Make sure you apply for your sticker within 3 months after approval.

Enter your V-number

You receive a V-number when your host applies for your residence permit at the Dutch Immigration Service (IND).

What is a V-number?

The V-number is your number as a foreign national (vreemdeling). You receive such a number as soon as you initiate the application for a residence permit. You'll find the number as a reference in letters from the IND and on the back of your residence document.
