Long-stay visa (MVV) or residence permit

Do you want to stay in the Netherlands for more than 90 days? In most cases, you will need a residence permit. Sometimes, you will first have to apply for a regular provisional residence permit (MVV). An MVV is a special entrance visa.

Situations in which you need a host

Depending on the purpose of your stay, your host may have to submit the application in the Netherlands. This applies if the purpose of your stay is related to either study work, co-habiting with or marrying someone who lives in the Netherlands or family reunification. In these cases your host will be an educational institution, your employer, a family member or your spouse or partner.

Using your documents in The Netherlands

If you are coming to live in the Netherlands, there will be lots of documents you might need for registration purposes. Depending on your own situation, you might need to legalize your civil records, diplomas or any other official document. Make sure to arrange the legalizations before departure from your current country of residence.
